Affiliate linksMicellar water is finally having its moment.youtube.com The year has just started but four new micellar waters have already hit the drugstore shelves. Well, being a huge fan of micellar waters, I am definitely not complaining! Bioderma Sensibio H2O was the first micellar water I ever tried and fell in love with it!youtube.com It definitely lives up to the hype! Not only does it wipe away all makeup (even waterproof variety) effortlessly but is also very gentle on sensitive skin and doesn’t sting the eyes. Then I tried Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (pink bottle) and found it incredibly similar to Bioderma (and just as gentle) yet much cheaper…in fact it is a great drugstore dupe for the Bioderma Sensibio H2O! Even better, now there’s a variety of micellar waters out there…all at the drugstore!

With my dry skin though, I have been particularly interested in the new crop of hydrating micellar waters. On a recent trip to Ulta, I spotted two new hydrating [https://biodermaindia.com/does-micellar-water-work-on-acne-prone-skin/ Micellar water for acne prone skin] waters, one from CeraVe and another one by SheaMoisture. Both of these had a Buy 1, get 1 at 50% off discount, so I snatched them up quickly! 10.99) have been formulated to not only cleanse gently and remove makeup but also leave your skin feeling soft and hydrated. The CeraVe Hydrating Micellar Water is formulated with three essential ceramides, plus other good-for-your-skin ingredients like hyaluronic acid to make good on its claim of cleansing as well as hydrating skin.

On the other hand, the SheaMoisture Daily Hydration Micellar Water contains a blend of 100% Virgin Coconut Oil and Coconut Water plus shea butter to moisturize and soften skin. Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Gluconolactone, Sodium Benzoate, Fragrance (Essential Oil Blend). Both the micellar waters have a lightly hydrating formula and straight up, I couldn’t tell any difference between these two when it comes to the hydration aspect! Also, I wouldn’t bother using any of these to remove waterproof mascara because you’ll be rubbing that delicate skin unnecessarily! I wear waterproof mascara only occasionally but whenever I do, I prefer to use this gentle makeup remover …its dual-phase formula quickly sweeps away all eye makeup without any greasy feel or irritation. SheaMoisture has a soft coconut fragrance (from essential oil blend) whereas CeraVe is completely fragrance-free. SheaMoisture is gentler on the eyes than Cerave’s formula.

The CeraVe micellar water tends to sting slightly, if it accidentally gets in the eyes. SheaMoisture micellar water is more sensitive skin-friendly. Wondering why I think Shea Moisture micellar water is gentler on sensitive skin? I happened to use a high concentration retinol cream a little too over-enthusiastically for 2-3 days in a row last week (big mistake!) so my skin is highly sensitive right now. When I used CeraVe Micellar Water, it stung for a few seconds whereas when I used SheaMoisture micellar water, it didn’t sting much at all. Honestly, it’s not a big deal for me because my skin is not that super sensitive usually so I wouldn’t even have known the difference if it were not for this retinol induced sensitivity!

However, it might be an important consideration for those who have very sensitive skin. Overall, SheaMoisture Daily Hydration Micellar Water is the winner for me. Both these hydrating micellar waters are equally good at removing makeup and impurities, and leave skin smooth and hydrated. However, CeraVe Hydrating Micellar Water can cause mild stinging if it accidentally gets in the eyes while removing makeup. Although the effect doesn’t last long, it can be a deal breaker if you want to use this micellar water mainly to remove eye makeup, or if you have sensitive eyes. There’s no alcohol and you’ll never have to worry about it stinging your face. You don’t have to rinse micellar water off! Goodbye, rubbing and scrubbing. It can be applied with a cotton pad, so you can refresh your face anytime, anywhere, as long as you have a cotton pad. So, now you know all about micellar water.youtube.com It’s simple and may seem confusing at first, but it works. Ready to try it out? This is the one that started it all. Garnier has micellar water for every skin type, travel sizes, and wipes. This water has natural hibiscus extracts, which will give your skin a nice pink glow. I highly recommend this micellar water if your skin is ultra-sensitive. Perfect choice if you’re just starting out with micellar water and aren’t sure which one to get. The micelles in this water have a similar composition to that of the skin, making it perfectly compatible with skin.

Is it a milk, is it an oil or is it a micellar? The skincare market of late certainly does - from Pixi’s new Hydrating Milky Tonic range to Garnier Milky Micellar Cleansing Water, skincare textures have gone distinctly creamy. Launching today, Glossier Milky Oil, £10 for 100ml, is a fusion of micellar water and a grime dissolving weightless oil that works as well on lips and glittery faces as it does on stubborn eye makeup. Suitable for sensitive eyes, it’s what the bare bones of your skincare regime should be really - simple, gentle, effective and functional. Here’s hoping Glossier do a Garnier and start churning out litres of the stuff, milking parlour style.

It’s been a busy but glorious week for me. Alex and I jetted off to Dubai for a few days to catch some last-minute rays before filming for the next series of MIC begun. Sun, sea and sand - pure bliss! All that sun seems to have taken its toll on my skin though, so I’ve been upping the ante on my skincare regime since I got back to the UK. So this week, I thought I'd share with you the skincare routine I’m following at the moment. Being a total beauty obsessive, I’ve been through a vast array of lotions and potions over the years, but I think I’ve finally found what works for me. I must stress, though, that skincare isn’t a one-size-fits-all type of thing. It’s important to select products specifically suited to your skin type, and I’d also suggest sampling a range of products before you buy them in full size. This fresh, invigorating foaming cleanser really wakes my skin up in the morning.

I only use micellar water when I've been wearing make up and I'm wanting to remove it all before I cleanse by face. Previously I've always used Garnier Micellar Water but as I described in my previous post I wanted to try out Simple's Micellar Water so that I can see which one is better for my skin. I take an oval shaped cotton pad, apply the micellar water and then go around my face dissolving all the make up. I tend to repeat this step as most of the time I'll need to take a separate cotton pad to remove my eye make up as it is a little tougher to remove!
