Forecast of a below-normal monsoon by Skymet Weather Services could reverse the positive consumption outlook. Forecast of a below-normal monsoon this year by Skymet Weather Services could reverse the positive consumption outlook for the next two quarters and estimates may have to be lowered, consumer goods and auto companies said. "Weak monsoons will impact the India consumption story," Britannia managing director Varun Berry said. "A setback to the agricultural economy will certainly impact disposable incomes of the 100 million farmers in the country. Rural markets contribute 25% of revenue for the maker of Good Day and Nutrichoice biscuits and Britannia cheese.

"A below-normal monsoon could impact discretionary spending and we expect some consumption stress in May and June if that happens," Dabur India chief executive Sunil Duggal said. Rural India accounts for close to half of Dabur’s domestic sales. In the auto sector, a below-normal monsoon would compound the problem of passenger vehicle and two-wheeler sales growth that would be in lower single digits, companies said. The hinterland and rural areas have made up for falling sales in the major metropolitan cities and any impact on these areas may mean a further lowering of growth rates in the current financial year. "We have forecast growth of 6-8% for passenger vehicles and two-wheelers due to pre-buying ahead of BSVI (emission standards). We may have to revise it downwards in case of a weak monsoon," said Subrata Ray, senior group vice president at rating company ICRA.

Skymet said on Wednesday that it expects the monsoon to be ‘below normal’ at 93% of the long-period average of 887 mm for the four-month period from June to September. Normal rainfall would be 96-104% of the long-period average. Hyundai Motor India national sales head Vikas Jain said that while a healthy monsoon is critical for good growth in rural areas, the spread of rainfall across the country is also important. "If the monsoon is below normal, car buying takes second priority. I think need-based buying will continue. However, it is the discretionary purchases which will be hit due to weak rains," Jain said. N Raja, deputy MD at Toyota Kirloskar, said a below-normal monsoon may impact the festive season this year.

"We were forecasting 3-4% growth in FY20 on the optimistic side, but if the fears of a weak monsoon come true, we will be happy to match FY19 sales," said Raja. According to analysts, macroeconomic headwinds such as slower GDP growth, soft consumer price indices and prolonged winters have already impacted the consumption of summer products. "If the monsoon is below normal, it will hurt an already stressed agrarian economy," said Anil Chugh, president (consumer ca6re) at Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting, the maker of Santoor soap. For Wipro, the rural markets account for 30-35% of annual sales. An ITC spokesperson said: "The currently buoyant rural demand would naturally be impacted if subnormal monsoon results in lower productivity of the rain-dependant kharif crops. She added that since farm incomes are supplemented by a number of other sources in the rural economy such as livestock, the company is optimistic, but will keep a close watch on the situation. Some were of the view that rural areas are no longer vulnerable to weak monsoons. Are you a Business Owner? Get Your Free Business Listing on Economic Times.

A newspaper is distinct as it is a combination of product and service. In the present market scenario, the newspapers are sold much below their cost of production, and this gap is being made good by the advertisement revenue. For example, cost of the paper which is used for newspapers, (which is usually called ‘newsprint’) will account for about 55 percent of the cover price. This was elaborated in Table 3.11 of this chapter. As one of the objective of this study revolves around the circulation activity, this study will examine the marketing practices for promoting newspaper as a product, i.e., from the circulation perspective.

The entry and exit barriers for print newspaper are less but there is fierce competition for maximizing their market share in terms of circulation numbers and advertisement revenue. Each major market has one dominant player and it is difficult for the new entrants to spread in that area. Marketing activity of a newspaper will start with identifying the geographical area which suits the business needs and tailor the product to meet the expectations of the reader. Newspaper, as a product is used by more than one family members, with different reading motives and behaviour. Hence, it is usually segmented to suit the cross section of readers. While the main edition caters the news and information, other pull-outs or supplements are aimed to fulfill the specialized content to ‘important segments’ that were identified by the marketing department.

A carefully planned and executed segmentation will help the newspapers gain market share and also provides a win-win situation for all the stakeholders, viz., readers, advertiser and the management of the organization. Once the market is segmented and aimed at, the marketing mix has to be finalized. Though few of the marketing mix activities will briefly touch on ‘place’ and ‘product’, it is important to have a deeper understanding about the marketing mix. "Marketing mix" is a general phrase used to describe the different kinds of choices organizations have to make in the whole process of bringing a product or service to market. The 4Ps is one way ‘ probably the best-known way ‘ of defining the marketing mix, and was first expressed in 1960 by E J McCarthy.

According to Philip Kotler - ‘Marketing Mix is the set of controllable variables that the firm can use to influence the buyer’s response’. Marketing mix is a general phrase used to describe the different choices the organization makes in the process of taking a product / service to the end consumer / into the market. Figure 3.1 gives a clear idea about the entire purpose of the marketing mix and its role in success of any marketing plan. Unlike many other products, newspaper organizations will have a product and a service to offer. Product ‘ in the form of a physical newspaper which contains printed newspapers, Service ‘ in the form of advertisement space / timely delivery.

This very nature of newspaper as a product makes it a complex task for arriving at an ideal marketing mix. A product, in a marketing parlance, may be considered as ‘good’ or ‘service’, but it is something more than that. Product is a broad concept that also encompasses the satisfaction of all consumer needs in relation to a good, service or idea. 1. Newspaper is a product which is to be made ready as late as possible and to be delivered to the consumer as early as possible. 2. It loses its value with the passage of time, life of which cannot be extended by manipulating the environment.

3. Newspaper is judged by its contents on a daily basis by its reader. 6. Newspaper is probably the only consumer product which has resale value and recyclable even after the being used. Categorizing newspaper as a product based on the information about consumer goods classification, is a complex task in view of its unusual nature. For some it may be shopping product, because they look for specific information from a specific newspaper and for some it may a casual product as their requirements from newspaper are not clearly defined. Figure 3.2 depicts the above in detail. Based on its utility, the newspaper can be classified as a ‘consumer product’.howmuch.net ‘ A ‘consumer non-durable product’ based on its utility, as it will be used directly by the consumer.

‘ A tangible product as it is delivered in physical form and as a non-tangible product in view of its value addition to its readers through news analyses. ‘ A perishable product, as it loses value with the passage of time and has less shelf value. Newspaper is an unusual combination of product and service. Its classification as a Product depends largely on how the customers look at it. For few customers it is a convenient product and for another it may be a shopping product. Even a newspaper, with good contents, will lose its value if not delivered in time.

Newspaper is considered more of a service than a product. Service element is at two stages of any newspapers journey to its readers. First, in the form of relevant, reliable news and analyses, second the time of delivery. In view of these characteristics, newspaper can also be considered as service. All the products and services are assessed by the consumer on the basis of quality, relevance, need-fulfillment, value delivery as per their expectations. However, Newspapers are judged on the basis of the contents they offer and time of delivery. Basic contents of a newspaper include ‘ news, analyses, photographs, advertisements, editorial etc. all of these are extremely dynamic and keep changing on a daily basis.

Another important factor in newspaper as a product is the ‘layout’ of the pages. News articles should be distributed among the pages based on their importance and relevance. Layout plays a vital role. Hence it is a challenge for any newspaper to consistently provide all of the above. Newspapers primarily meant to be news and information providers. Advancements in technology and increased competition both within the industry and from TV, Radio and Internet have necessitated the newspapers to undertake product changes keep pace with competition and increasing the product life cycle (PLC). Introduction of features on ‘ education, job and career, fashion, lifestyle, health, technology, leisure etc. Most of these are issued as a separate sections, to be inserted with the main newspaper. These are generally referred to as ‘supplements’. Supplements are mainly aimed at engaging the readers with the newspaper, which are released on specific days of the week.

As your baby develops, starts eating solid foods, and can sit up on her own, you may find yourself in the market for a high chair to make feeding your baby easier, and to encourage self-feeding. There are quite a few considerations to take into account when searching for the right high chair, but first and foremost, always check the consumer products safety commission website for any high chair recall alerts before buying.digiday.com Here are some key features to look for when buying a high chair. Some high chairs can take up quite a lot of space, particularly the deluxe models. Take a tape measure with you if you’re checking out high chairs in a store, and be realistic about what can fit in your kitchen or dining area. In addition to freestanding high chairs there are also tray-less models that attach directly to a table.

These high chairs are also portable and are great options for grandparents or other family members who may only need to pull out a high chair once in a while. One thing you can count on no matter which high chair you choose is that it will get seriously dirty. Nothing is messier than a baby learning to feed herself!youtube.com Stay away from vintage or used high chairs. High chairs should have safety harnesses, either a five point or a three point with the buckle between the legs. You want to make sure your baby could not slip down or stand up - both of which could result in a fall.

The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) seal should be displayed on the packaging to help ensure that safety standards are met. 300, a more expensive high chair may last you many years. But make sure to double check for any recalls before reusing for the next sibling. Moving your growing baby to a high chair can be a really exciting time. It marks the beginning of big milestones in your baby’s life - sitting up, eating solid foods, moving to finger foods, and ultimately being a part of the regular family meals. Rate your high chair options according to your top priorities - size, ease of cleaning, adaptability - and then choose the one that fits your budget and that makes mealtime easier for you.

Ultrasonic welding, while having many limitations in terms of geometry, material, and overall part size, is still one of the most economical and flexible joining processes for high volume consumer products. Some of the other most common plastic welding methods are: Hot Plate, Vibration, and Laser. Hot plate welding is the oldest form of plastic welding, and is the simplest method. Vibration is nearly as common as ultrasonics but is used for much larger parts. Laser welding is a relatively new welding method, but one which generates a lot of excitement and activity. As far as I know, it has only been developed at the university level and has never been used commercially. A gasket often needs to be used to direct heating to the joint. However, internal components may be heated as well (such as metal).

A rare, yet commercially used, form of plastic welding would be resistive implant welding of plastics.shareablee.com A wire needs to be placed into the joint, then heated either by sending electricity through the wire. It is not as often used as it requires a consumable and, when not heated by induction, leaves wires sticking out of the part. Additionally, outside of a few companies that sell pre-made gaskets for resistance welding of plastic pipes, there aren’t many companies that work with this type of welding. Therefore, determining the method of heating the wire, the size of the wire, and the settings to use is largely left up to the user, making it a riskier endeavor. A slightly more common variant of this is using induction to heat a wire implant. This method means that there is no need to have a wire sticking out of the joint, but can be damaging to other internal metal components.

For example, the demand for automobiles would, in the short term, be somewhat elastic, as the purchase of a new vehicle can often be delayed. The demand for a specific model automobile would likely be highly elastic, because there are so many substitutes. Table 5 shows estimated price elasticities of demand for a variety of consumer goods and services. Over the long run, the demand for automobiles in rural areas would probably be inelastic, since there are few alternative modes of transportation. Table 5 includes an estimate for the price elasticity of demand of 1.1 for alternative schools. Schooling itself is considered an essential service by most parents, and better schools are so desirable to many parents that they undertake considerable sacrifices to send their children to alternative schools. This would tend to produce a highly inelastic demand.youtube.com However, there is also a widely available substitute for alternative schools, namely the traditional public schools. For most goods and services, the availability of substitutes produces a highly elastic demand. 631-0900 | 140 W. Main Street Midland, MI 48640 P.O.
