About Geocaching
Geocaching is an outdoor sport or activity in which 'cachers' use a GPS receiver to find a "treasure" hidden by other participants. Caches are secured in watertight containers, containing gifts and a logbook in which they record their discovery of the cache. The coordinates of the location of the caches are stored on online databases such as Opencaching.org.uk along with descriptions and instructions necessary to find them.
About Opencache.uk
Opencaching has been running in Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic for several years and although there are many parts of their websites that are available translated into English, there are parts still in German, Polish, etc. making the use of these sites somewhat difficult for the English-speaking caching community. This site's founder is grateful to Krzysztof ("trojmiasto") and Waldek ("sp2ong") from Opencaching Poland for their invaluable assistance in setting up the site. If you have caches listed on other sites, you're welcome to list them on Opencache.uk as well. However, bear in mind that the other sites may have restrictions about such cross-listing, or links on cache pages. It is planned that a number of volunteers will be appointed by the users of the site to the "OC Team" who will act as moderators of the forum, advisers on cache placement, and necessary database management tasks, such as archiving abandoned cache listings.
