OpenChecker allows users to check their solution for the final coordinates for caches that are not hidden at the given initial coordinates (geocaches of type Quiz / Puzzle, Multicache, Other Type).
Cache owner - setting up OpenChecker
Adding OpenChecker to your cache
As the owner of a Quiz / Multicache / Other type cache, you can offer other geocachers looking for your cache to check their calculated/obtained coordinates for the final location before they actually go out in the field to search for the container.
- Open cache edit page (press Edit button on top toolbar)
- Click Add new Waypoint
- Set Waypoint type as final location
- Enter the coordinates where you hid the box
- Write an optional description (it will be shown to the user when he/she verified the correct coordinates) Note: you can also use HTML tags.
- Check the OpenChecker checkbox
- Set Waypoint Status to Hide this Waypoint from cache view
- Save Waypoint
Your cache now has OpenChecker added and users can verify their solution:
- On the cache page, below the cache description, you will see the OpenChecker section.
- The cache is listed in the OpenChecker page.
Removing a cache from OpenChecker
- Open cache edit page (press Edit button on top toolbar)
- Scroll down to the Waypoints list
- Click Edit on the Final location Waypoint
- Uncheck the OpenChecker checkbox
Your cache no longer has OpenChecker.
Searching for the cache - verifying your solution
Limitations
To avoid brute force attempts at finding a solution, a user may try to check coordinates at most 10 times in a 60 min period of time.
If you use up the available attempts, you have to wait until you can try again.
Using cache page
- Open cache page
- Scroll down below the description, see OpenChecker section
- Press Check button
- Enter your coordinates and press Check
Both on cache page and check result page you will see two counters: Attempts - how many times users tried to check a solution and Hits - how many times a correct solution has been verified.
Using OpenChecker list
- Press OpenChecker button on User's menu (left side of page)
- Identify the cache in the list or enter Waypoint in the searchbox just above the list
- Click on cache name
- Enter your coordinates and press Check
Using OpenChecker Waypoint search
- Press OpenChecker button on User's menu (left side of page)
- Enter Waypoint in the searchbox just above the list. If the Waypoint is valid for a cache with Openchecker, you will see the coordinates check form
- Enter your coordinates and press Check
